Nakita is the "alpha" of our female Alaskan Malamutes.  Although sweet and endearing towards people (and the male Mals), she exhibits a dominant demeanor towards the other females.  She is TOLERANT of the younger females, until they "become of age".  She was our best mother, however, and extended her nurturing nature to puppies other than her own!

Nakita has been retired for quite a long time.  She gained too much weight prior to whelping, then, didn't lose ANY after nursing.  She had some difficulty whelping her last litter of 13 pups, so, we retired her ... each litter was larger than the previous litter and, in spite of our best efforts, we were unable to help her to shed any weight.  She enjoys her retirement, though.  One of her pups, Nakeeta, was returned to us and shares a pen with Nakita.  Although Nakita is dominant over her daughter, they are extremely close and, because she has a younger Mal with whom to play, Nakita has lost SOME weight.

Nakita has been retired ... a well-earned retirement!  She spends her days now just lying about with her daughter, Nakeeta.

Nakita is the eldest female of our family of Alaskan Malamutes. She is cat-tolerant (provided the cat doesn't scratch her!).

Nakita tends to be timid with strangers until given time to become acquainted. She and Dakota have been inseparable since they were puppies, but, she doesn't hesitate to put Dakota in his place!

Nakita is the "queen" of our family of Alaskan Malamutes. She and Dakota are inseparable for the most part. When Dakota is moved to Tundra's pen for mating purposes, Nakita sulks the entire time!

Nakita is an average height for a female, but, a powerfully-built dog.
